Baby Bottle Review: Dr. Brown’s vs. Avent

Since I am first-time parent and am learning quite a bit every day, I want to share my trials and tribulations from a financial perspective.  I will start posting on a new category relating to parenting and daddy items.  In the first post of this new category, I would like to provide my personal review of two of the popular baby feeding bottles on the market: Avent and Dr. Browns.

Before our baby arrived, we decided to purchase the initial starter kit of the Philips Avent Newborn Starter Set.  This package included a one (1) 4oz bottle, two (2) 9oz bottles, and a bottle cleaning brush.  As we started using these bottles when the baby came home, I started noticing that the liquid would leak out of the top if you didn’t secure it enough.. After the first few times and with only a few hours of sleep, this started to become a big pain.

So before laying out over  $25 for another set of bottles, I decided to just buy one (1) 4oz bottle of another popular brand Dr. Browns’ Natural Flow.  With only one bottle, this has become our bottle of choice…No leaks, nice flow of liquid and patented system of colic reduction.  Now that I found a bottle that I can rely one, I will purchase a few more so I don’t have to clean the only bottle after every feeding…

If you are becoming a first time parent and looking for some reviews and personal opinion of bottle choices, pick Dr. Brown’s over Avent to save you time, energy, and less money wasted.

To make the most of it, I will see if there is much of a secondary market for used Avent Baby Bottles (Ebay or Craigslist) to recoup some of the expense.  Has anyone had any success with this?

It had a long straw that went into the bottle and the nipple was loose like a pacifier. It allowed the baby to sit up and the bottle sat on the chair and the baby just sucked on the nipple like a pacifier…
