June 2008 PF Bloggers Stock Picking Contest Prize

As we approach the end of the May 2008 Personal Finance Bloggers Stock Picking contest, I would like to announce the prize for the next month’s contest. It will be a free copy of “The 4-hour Workweek” by Timothy Ferriss

For the June 2008 contest, I would also include a 2nd prize as a stretch goal to encourage more blogs to sign up. If there are more than 50 blogs that sign up, I will provide a $25 Paypal payment. So please help me get the word out there to see who is the best on the web.

If you are interested in competing in the June 2008 contest, please comment or email me your choice (limit to 5 symbols) for the contest. Please include your blog URL so that I can include in the monthly tracking sheet.

I admit - I can’t read Mr. Market’s mind. I have no idea how to pick short-term stocks. A long-term stock pick? Well, you’ll participate in my picks if you invest in my fund. ;)

So here’s my perpetual entry - a portfolio with a low probability of performing exceedingly well in the short-term, but a high probability of earning a satisfactory return over the long-term (probably better than my stock picks):

MUTF:VITSX (Vanguard Total Stock Mkt Idx Instl) @ 40%

MUTF:VGTSX (Vanguard Total Intl Stock Index) @ 50%

MUTF:VBTIX (Vanguard Total Bond Market Index Inst) @ 5%

MUTF:PIGLX (PIMCO Global Bond (Unhedged) Instl) @ 5%

My options strategy was based on the premise that the stock market would be volatile. However, the S&P is nearly unchanged for the month. While this is an embarrassing loss, at least it is not real money.

For June, I’ll pick a single, more conservative stock: Pfizer (PFE).
